Mosaics

Mosaics began both as a form of art, to create an image in stone, and as a way to use up small pieces of stone when larger pieces were not available or affordable. Mosaics date back 5000 years, to a temple in Mesopotamia. In the Americas, similar mosaics of stone, shell and bone date back more than 2000 years. You find mosaics across the globe, each one capturing a moment in time.
